Local Focus: Savant Vintage
June 17, 2013
Savant Vintage hosts one of the most exciting and unique shopping experiences available in the Nashville area. Around for over a decade, Savant is a frequent 12th South District stop for celebrities, stylists, and vintage lovers from all over the world. I had the privilege of spending a Sunday afternoon in Savant with my sister, brother, and photographer Alden Allen to capture the stylish vintage available at this local hot spot. Below are the six looks put together from the phenomenal racks.
Her merchandise comes from everywhere, and her inspiration can come from anything. Beverly Chowning, owner of Savant Vintage, has been collecting designers like Pucci, Diane von Furstenberg, and Dior for years. In hopes to create a location for "better vintage", she's successfully created a chic atmosphere full of vintage surprises.
A perk to any local business is the character and personality. Beverly's pup, Alice, is a celebrity in her own right. Adored by folks like Lenny Kravitz, Alice can be found laying in the sunlight by the front door, riding on Beverly's scooter, or hiding behind the counter.

The clothing inside Savant Vintage is not the only proof of this store's remarkable history. In December 2012, Vogue named Savant as "Nashville's best vintage store". It's been featured in numerous movies and television shows, including Nashville. Jack White, Karen Elson, and Taylor Swift are frequent shoppers, and buyers like William Vintage flock to Savant to sift through the racks. So, whether you're in the area or simply passing through, don't miss this Nashville staple. Savant always delivers an afternoon of memorable vintage shopping.
Thank you to Alden Allen for photographing the shoot, and a huge thank you to Beverly for allowing her Sunday afternoon to be filled with photo lights, displaced clothing, and all three of the Acree kids.
"All the way around, like a big donut, and goes up..."
With every ring of the doorbell, the recurring words from Beverly's perch describe the Savant Vintage layout. A small house turned store, every corner is filled with vintage furnishings, accessories, and clothing for sale. Upstairs is a rare find when vintage shopping, a room filled entirely with beautiful men's clothing, shoes and hats included.
