Local Focus: Pura Vida Vintage
October 2, 2013
Pura Vida Vintage is one of the most multifaceted, practical, and affordable vintage shopping locations in Nashville. A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of spending a Saturday morning in Pura Vida with photographer Alden Allen, happily pouring over racks for all seasons, sizes, and style aesthetics. In addition to an impressive display of vintage clothing and accessories, this shop stands apart from others, hosting the unique capability for on-site alterations through Only One Tailoring. Below are the four looks I styled with Pura Vida merchandise and a closer look at everything this sweet little shop has to offer.
Krystle Ramos, owner and curator of Pura Vida, has been collecting vintage since she was in high school. Launching the online store for Pura Vida in October 2012, Krystle saw potential and opened a physical store less than six months later. Only One Tailoring, founded by the late Cindy McGill, has been performing beautiful custom alterations and embellishments for over a decade. Her son, Aaron, uses the skills she taught him to carry on her legacy and continue her thriving business. In June 2013, Aaron contacted Krystle in an effort to work together. Now, the big red barn on Music Row is co-located by both savvy companies. Not competing, just collaborating.
"This Is The Life"
"Pura Vida" is loosely translated as the Costa Rican national slogan, "This Is The Life". With a packed store and a booming online shop, Pura Vida Vintage is reaching out and crossing borders in hopes to help vintage shoppers feel unique, eco-friendly, and one-of-a-kind. Krystle handpicks her merchandise from thrift stores, estate sales, and online auctions. Travelling to locations like Spokane, Washington and Glendale, Arizona, annual vintage shopping sprees are required. Clothing for men and women are available for purchase, as well as jewelry, accessories, home decor, and gifts. Not in Nashville? Visit the Pura Vida Online Shop.

The collaboration of Pura Vida Vintage and Only One Tailoring is genius. Vintage clothing is sized for a different generation, and it's rare when pieces fit perfectly. To save time and energy, shopping at Pura Vida allows for a 30% discount with Only One Tailoring. Since every item is unique, merchandise is snatched up before you know it! Follow PVV on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for instant updates on the latest vintage gems.
Thank you to Alden Allen for photographing the shoot, and a huge thank you to Krystle for letting me rummage through every inch of the store at 9am...with curlers in my hair. Thank you. Such a treat.
